You have to dream, before your dreams come true” A. P. J. Abdul Kalam
With the Summer Solstice just around the corner, it is a powerful time to acknowledge the growth and blossoming in our lives. However, the abundance of the sun can feel like a bit of a paradox if we have not yet allowed ourselves time to nourish our dream seeds and are still residing dormant in the dark.
After these last years of upheaval + uncertainty, many of our lives look incredibly different than perhaps we had “planned” them out to be.
Many of us followed what we were taught to be the straight and narrow path of “success.” Follow the steps. Colour inside the lines. Tick all the boxes. Get a good job - a secure job. Accumulate some wealth. Put yourself into debt by getting a mortgage. Work to live, live to work. Living to work to pay your debt, to pay your bills, to pay for childcare so you can work, to get things… and maybe, perhaps one day, if you’re one of the lucky ones, you can get off the hamster wheel and rest, travel, and do the things your heart really longs to do…
If you were on that path, you probably faced some major disruptions in the past couple of years, and have had to reconfigure many aspects of your life to simply survive.
Well, it feels like we are coming out the other side, but the path may not seem so straight and narrow anymore. If you’re like me, it’s been hard to make plans, and connect to a long-term vision of your life, because our whole world, ideals + values may have massively shifted through the pandemic.
If yours did, and you are not “where you thought you’d be” know there is nothing wrong with you. There is nothing you could have done to prepare. It’s ok if you’re still going through hard times + figuring out your place in this “new world.” It’s okay to question if how you were living before, just simply isn’t enough now. What is important is that you’re questioning + assessing how you want your life to feel NOW.
Complex + difficult emotions are not meant to be bypassed, but loved up by ourselves so that we can feel compassion for what we have encountered in our life, and may choose to step forward in trust when we’re ready. This is a personal timeline. You are allowed to fully feel + honour your grief. It’s a process, and not linear.
In order to create a new reality for ourselves, we must believe that we are worthy.
Your lived experience + grief is worthy of your attention + love, and you can create new experiences for yourself by bringing focus to what you are desire.
We are not victims to our circumstances, and we can start to bolster ourselves in ways so we can safely begin to dream again.
Community. Connection. Rest. Play. Creativity. Service ~ these things bolster me... what do you need? *check out the prompts below for deeper insights + self-inquiry.
About 10 months ago, I had a vision of myself resting in the earth, like a seed. I didn’t realize it at the time, but I needed to feel the weight of it all, rest in the compressed soil around me, be supported by the things I needed in the moment without judgment, and give myself permission to feel it all.
The pressure that holds the seed, nourishes it, strengthens it, and sustains it, until it is ready to move toward the light + reveal it’s essence of life and unique expression. This cannot be forced or rushed.
What if all those “hard times/feelings” hold incredible value and is the medicine that you are here to share?
If we were too busy to feel before, then too shocked + bewildered to hold what was coming up, it’s ok, it’s your process, and perfect. So, how can you validate yourself now, so that you trust your self, can call in the light, find the support and can honour the new ways wanting to emerge in divine timing?
The seed is the dream time. You cannot jump to the blossom, or the fruit, so perhaps rest + nourishment, soul-tending, is still necessary? What does that mean to you? Inner child work? Acknowledgment? Compassion?
Can you claim where and/or how you may feel safe to dream again and rest in possibility?
Challenge + opportunity go together, and in this contrast is the illuminating light we need to see the path in front of us, how to co-create in ways that support our dreams unfolding for the highest good of our lives + the world around us.
Some questions to reflect on:
What are you stepping towards?
What dreams are you bringing to life?
What does the world you are creating incorporate + accommodate?
Are you meeting your own needs right now?
How do you feel?
How do you want to feel?
What needs tending or acceptance?
If resources were without limitation, what would you do with your time?
I fully believe new ways, new systems are necessary + possible. But we have to allow ourselves to feel a resonance with what that means to us as individuals. This may mean: time going inward, healing support, a change in lifestyle, friendship circle, boundaries etc…
